About Me

The Villa Sarabhai, built 1951-1955, is located in Ahmedabad, India

Purpose

This house was designed to create a cool living space, which is why the house is only separated from the outside with bamboo curtains in the residential sapces, and also why the house is positioned the way it is.

My Lovely Drawing

I captured the reoccurring geometrical shapes and the roof top garden with a couple of flowers.

I believe the author is correct when it is stated that the house has many geometrical shapes.

This house is very inviting to the outside world and mother nature.

Print Sources

I've read some pages from two books about this house. I didn't quite understand at first why the Villa Sarabhai didn't have doors or windows covering the residential areas. It is because "the task of this house was to reveal the world to the people which occupy it." This house responds to winter and summer seasons. As the light passes through, it leaves an ever changing dynamic effect on the Villa Sarabhai.

-Le Corbusier main focus when creating a house is to create "a machine for living in."
-His basic building prototype is for mass production with free-standing pillars and rigid floors.
